if you cannot find an answer to your question.
November through January are the best times as the bison hides are in good shape and the weather is still cooperative for the most part. We are going to continue providing hunts through January of 2024 for our first hunting season; however, we are planning on normally offering harvests in November and December in future years.
We are required to fill out a bison hauling permit so you can take your bison to a processing facility or home. Law-Free bison will fill that out and provide it to you at no extra cost. No other tags, licenses, or hunter's education is required.
We require a .30 caliber minimum. 7 mm magnum, .300 win-mag, or .338 mag are all good options to effectively harvest a bison.
Pickup or large SUV is our recommendation. Four-wheel drive with good ground clearance is a must. Most out-of-staters either bring a personal vehicle if they have four-wheel drive or rent one if necessary. It is a possibility to fly into Rapid City, SD or Billings, MT and rent such a vehicle if preferred.
At this time, we do not have accommodations available. Please see Hunter Resources above for local accommodations in Ekalaka, MT. It is best to book early as our hotels book quickly in the year for the November hunting season.
Not at this time. We are currently only offering bison hunts. This may be a future endeavor though.
We do not foresee a good outcome by trying to utilize a bow & arrow as a bison hide is much thicker and they are much larger in size than a deer or elk. We do not allow archery hunts.
